Van Gogh's Painting Recreated with 8,000 Plants

For the first time ever, a painting will be made into a "living wall" outside London's National Gallery! Not just any painting, of course. Using 8,000 plants, General Electric is recreating Van Gogh’s masterpiece 'A Wheatfield, with Cypresses,' as part of the Gallery's carbon plan.

Growing throughout the summer and fall, it will remain there until October 2011. Chosen for its strong band of colors that can be reproduced effectively, 'A Wheatfield, with Cypresses' will be made with 26 different varieties of plants!

Below is the painting which was originally created in September 1889, while Van Gogh was a patient at the St-Rémy mental asylum.

How wonderful would it be to walk by the "living wall" every day and watch it grow?
